An evergreen fern with fine, filegree fronds. Position: full or partial shade Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Hardiness: fully hardy One of the loveliest varieties of our native evergreen fern, ‘Herrenhausen’ forms an elegant, lacy rosette of filigree-fine fronds, which contrast well with other shade-loving foliage plants. It looks great when used to line the edges of a border, or when planted in randon drifts or clumps through a in a woodland setting. Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost into the planting hole. Either cut back the old foliage in early January to allow space for spring bulbs, or leave them in place until April when the new fronds appear.
