This vigorous, versatile, golden privet will happily grow in any well-drained soil. It makes an attractive hedge for a sunny urban or suburban site, retaining its leaves in all but the coldest winters. Garden care: Plant immediately upon arrival into a well-cultivated area. Trim the hedge twice or three times during the growing season providing there are no nesting birds present. Apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plants in early spring.
