This bushy shrub has already been clipped into a tight 18cm ball, so it’s ideal for creating a formal look in pots, where it will offer year-round interest. Clipped topiary like this is also invaluable when woven through mixed borders, as it adds a structural element that acts as a foil for the more blousy seasonal froth. Garden care: Plants grown as free-standing specimens require minimal pruning – remove damaged or misplaced branches in spring. Trim plants grown as formal hedges in late summer. After pruning apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant.
