Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: fertile, moist or well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: fully hardy Forming a low mound of richly coloured leaves, this eye-catching perennial is ideal for pots, or for adding interest at the front edges of a border. It’s primarily grown for it’s foliage, which turns a deeper shade as as the temperatures drop, but its open sprays of summer flowers are also very pretty. Garden care: Remove tatty foliage in autumn. Lift and divide clumps every couple of years in early autumn and replant with the crown just above the surface of the soil. Apply a generous 5-7 cm (2-3 in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the crown of the plant in spring.
