A great gift for a keen cook or gardener. Stylish and ready to plant, this decorative timber caddy comes with compost pellets and two packets of herb seed (one of thyme and one of oregano). It makes a great gift for anyone who likes to cook – while keeping fresh herbs close to hand. Growing instructions: Make the compost by placing the compost pellets in a suitable mixing container and adding 300ml of lukewarm water. Allow to stand and expand for 30-60 minutes before draining off any excess water and mixing it well. You may need another splash of water if the compost mix looks dry. When the compost is ready to use, nearly fill each section of the caddy with compost, before scattering a thin layer of seed (oregano in one half and thyme in the other) on top. Cover the seeds with a very thin layer of compost and gently moisten. Move to a warm well-lit area (a windowsill is ideal, but keep in mind that full sunshine will quickly dry out the compost. Alternatively, if the seeds are sown in spring, the caddy can be placed outside in a sunny, sheltered spot. The compost must be kept moist but not waterlogged at all times, and in time, the herbs can be harvested with a pair of sharp scissors as and when required.
