A clump forming, wintergreen fern with maroon, juvenile foliage. Position: partial shade to full shade Soil: moist, but well-drained humus-rich soil Rate of growth: average Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection) A vibrant, clump-forming fern with glorious maroon, red fronds that mature to green later in the year. This Doodia is ‘wintergreen’, dying back only in the coldest of winters, where it will emerge once again in the spring given some protection. ‘Rough Ruby’ has a beautiful shape making it great for patio pots and containers, where the rough ‘saw-like’ fronds can provide early seasonal colour and texture to the garden. Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost into the planting hole. Cut back decayed fronds in winter to allow new growth to emerge.
