An evergreen, grass-like perennial with prominent violet-blue berries. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: humus-rich, well drained, neutral to acidic soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to July Hardiness: frost hardy (may need protection in winter) Flax Lily’s sword-like leaves are edged with white and form erect clumps of grass-like foliage, great for adding texture and architectural form. Loose sprays of starry-violet flowers with prominent yellow stamens are followed by attractive, fleshy, bluish-black berries. Dianella is great for en-masse plantings or as a striking accent specimen in a pot. An easy to care for plant with all season interest. Garden care: Avoid locations and ground conditions likely to suffer from waterlogging, especially over the winter and protect from hard frosts. In all but very sheltered gardens, this is best grown in a pot, so it can be moved to an unheated greenhouse during the colder months. Tolerates drought once established, but looks best with regular watering.
