Lemon-yellow, goblet-shaped potted crocus bulbs. These in the green bulbs may have finished flowering. Position: full sun Soil: gritty, poor to moderately fertile, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: February and March Hardiness: fully hardy Fragrant, lemon-yellow, goblet-shaped flowers with a bronze-green base and purple markings on the outer petals, appear in February and March with their slender, strap-shaped leaves. Perfect for naturalising in a sunny border or lawn, they also work well in pots and windowboxes, where you will be better able to take advantage of their sweet smelling blooms. You can enjoy these in their pots, or plant them straight out in the garden. Garden care: After flowering, plant the bulbs out in clusters to form naturalistic drifts 10cm deep where they can be left undisturbed for several years. Keep a lookout for damage by mice or squirrels. This can sometimes be avoided by laying a piece of chicken wire over the bulbs before you cover them with soil. If you are growing these in grass, avoid mowing until the leaves have completely died back.
