Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist to boggy, slightly acidic soil Depth of water: 0-10cm Rate of growth: fast-growing Hardiness: frost tender (will need winter protection) The show-stopping foliage of this impressive, moisture-loving perennial will add colour and contrast to pond edges, jungle-themed borders or even patio pots (provided they are kept well watered!). Topping variously streaked upright stems, giant, heart-shaped leaves unfurl in spring and summer, opening to reveal their rich green, plum and lime colouring. Garden care: If growing in pots with reliable moisture, gradually reduce watering into autumn, and lift pots before the first frost, overwintering them in a frost-free place. In spring, water more often, but do not move them back outside until after all risk of frost has passed. If growing as a pond marginal or bog garden plant, keep in a pond basket until the threat of frost is forecast and overwinter in a warm greenhouse, maintaining temperatures above 10°C, and avoid overwatering. Cut back faded foliage to the base of the stems when necessary.
