Children will love to grow their own strawberries. Position: bright light Soil: compost supplied Rate of growth: fast Hardiness: fully hardy Dimensions: 14cm x 12cm Strawberries are relatively easy to grow, so they are perfect for children who will love to eat their tasty fruits when they ripen. This kit comes complete with brightly coloured zinc planter, some strawberry seeds, a dehydrated peat-free compost pellet, and easy to follow instructions. Growing instructions: Place the peat-free compost pellet in a suitable mixing container and add 350ml of lukewarm water. Allow to stand and expand for 30-60 minutes, then drain off any excess water and mix the compost well. You may have more compost than you require, or more water could be needed if the compost mix is looking too dry. Fill 90% of the planter with compost, place the seeds evenly over the surface before covering with a thin layer of compost. Water gently and place the planter indoors in a bright position. Keep well watered, never allowing the compost to dry out completely, and after the seeds have sprouted, remove excess seedlings – leaving the three strongest ones to grow. Place the planter outside in a sunny position after the risk of frost has passed.
