A variegated, creeping, broad-leaved sedge. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: April to May Hardiness: fully hardy A semi-evergreen sedge forming a spreading clump of broadly linear, grass-like leaves which are heavily variegated with bold white splashes and streaks of bright green. Small, pale brown flower-spikes open before the new leaves in early spring, but ‘Shiro Nafaku’ really shines as a foliage plant used lavender, achillea, and sedum for long-lasting, low maintenance borders. Grow in a dark or metallic themed pot in a city or contemporary garden to illuminate and add interest to a shady corner. Garden care: Comb through the plant in winter to remove dead foliage. Feed with a general purpose fertiliser during the growing season and if necessary, lift and divide over-large clumps in early spring.
