A small perennial with pinkish-red flowerheads and silvery-green fern-like, fine. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist but well-drained soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: June to August Hardiness: fully hardy Fern-like, finely-toothed silvery grey leaves emerge to support cup-shaped pinkish-red flowers in late spring and early summer. Preferring a shadier, moist but well-drained border, such as woodland margin, or a pot out of full sun, Anemone multifida ‘Rubra’ is a colourful and low-maintenance companion for other shade-loving plants such as hostas and ferns. Left to its own devices, this vigorous, long-flowering perennial will naturalise quite happily. Garden care: Cut back the stalks after the flowers have faded. Tidy up old dead leaves in March. Apply a generous 5-7cm mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring. Avoid moving the plant in spring. Avoid moving the plant since it resents disturbance. Where necessary lift and divide congested clumps in early spring.
