A gorgeous, low-growing fern. Position: full or partial shade Soil: moist, but well-drained humus-rich soil Rate of growth: average Hardiness: fully hardy This elegant fern is useful for providing attractive ground cover in a partially shaded spot. Often infused with pink when they first emerge in spring, the light green fronds form in splaying fans, that are supported on ebony-black stems. Team it with hostas, hellebores and and other fern species for a naturalised, woodland effect. Garden care: Dig in lots of well-rotted garden compost before you plant, and apply it as an annual mulch each year. Cut dead foliage back to the base in spring, taking care not to damage the newly emerging fronds.
